CinemaCon: Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar," "Transformers 4" will use IMAX cameras

By Brent Lang

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" and Michael Bay's "Transformers 4" will be shot with IMAX cameras as part of a new pact between the giant screen company and Paramount Pictures.

Under the deal, announced during Monday's opening of the exhibition industry trade show CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Paramount will release five upcoming films in the IMAX format. The other three titles have yet to be decided, Greg Foster, chairman and president of IMAX Entertainment said.

Foster said that this year three films will be at least partly shot using IMAX cameras, including Paramount's "Star Trek Into Darkness," which hits theaters next month. In all, he said he anticipates that 40 films will be screened on IMAX, though most will not be shot with its special cameras.

Both Bay and Nolan have wielded IMAX cameras in the past on their "Dark Knight" and "Transformers" franchises, respectively.

"Interstellar," starring Matthew McConaughey, is wrapped in layers of secrecy, as is the case with most Nolan productions. The co-production with Warner Bros. hits theaters in November 2014.

"Transformers 4" jettisons Shia LaBeouf, the star of the first three films, for Mark Wahlberg. It debuts in June 2014.
