On entering, we were greeted by the ma?tre d', who took our coats and quickly seated us at our table. He took our wine order and then left us to peruse the menu. There were some incredible sounding dishes on the menu and it took some thought to come up with my final decision.
For the starter I decided to have the lightly salted beef carpaccio with seasonal vegetables. The dish was well presented and very colourful, it looked almost too good to eat. The beef itself had a wonderfully strong flavour that sat well amongst the seasonal veg. Light and refreshing, it was the perfect start to the meal, washed down with a large glass of wine.
The main soon followed and arrived once again, extremely well presented and looking thoroughly inviting. I had chosen a classic dish, the duck confit with pomme fondante, braised savoy cabbage and orange sauce. The duck was moist and tender and fell off the bone with ease and the pomme fondante, which was essentially potato, was the perfect accompaniment for the meat.
After a necessary rest following the main course, we decided that a pudding was in order so we signalled for the dessert menu. There were many delicious sounding dishes, such as baked plums on pistachio shortbread with honey and pink peppercorn yoghurt or a cr?me br?l?e with madeleines. However, although being a big fan of a?cr?me br?l?e, I decided to try something different and went for the Le 'Tiramisu', a tiramisu flavoured mess with chocolate sponge, coffee meringue and mascarpone cream. This was a favourite with my dinner guests and for a good reason too. It's really quite hard to describe the flavour but it was basically a small parcel of indulgence with a lovely smooth and creamy texture. I could have put away three of these, they were that good!
All in all the Coq d'Argent was a very special dining experience. With its faultless service, delicious and beautifully presented cuisine and its rooftop location it really delivers on all fronts. This would be the perfect place to take a date and now that it is summer an even better place to enjoy after work drinks, as you can unwind with a glass of fine wine overlooking the fabulous views of our capital. Definitely add this to your list of summer haunts this year, but don't wait too long as this weather may not last forever!
